Gateway Arch - Austin Heyne

What has always amazed me about the Gateway Arch is its sheer size. When you see pictures, you don’t get a sense of the scale but standing at one of the legs, looking up, the unbroken lines rocket upward and seem suspended at the top. The arch stands 630 feet tall, higher than most other buildings in the city and the tallest monument in the US. Visitors are able to observe Saint Louis from the top of the arch, accessible by a tram like elevator. Being a math major, one aspect I really like about the arch is that its shape was actually defined by a fairly simple set of equations.
