The Leaning Tower of Pisa (Pisa, Italy)--Erika Graham

Another Italian building that I find intriguing is the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Pisa, Italy. The Leaning Tower of Pisa is actually a free standing bell tower made for the Cathedral in Pisa. Its sideways tilt is due to the fact that the ground was too soft on one side of the structure during construction to support the building. The building itself is characteristic of Roman architecture, incorporating symmetry, geometry, and arches. The Leaning Tower of Pisa, despite its flaws, is still a beautiful piece of construction that stands tall and proud today.
