New Richmond Library--Devon Triebold

The New Richmond Library in New Richmond, Wisconsin is nothing special as far as libraries go. It doesn't have any innovative design elements or any outstanding collections of books. Despite that, this library is one of the places I feel most comfortable. There are several reasons for this. It is age-friendly (no stairs, no level changes, automatic doors, etc.,) unobtrusive, and welcoming. There is an unintentionally quaint pathway of little stones cutting through the grass leading to the door (to the right of this photo,) which was put there after the first year because people kept walking through the grass rather than using the walkways. Inside, the lighting is bright and homey. The space is small and cozy enough that the librarians there often know you by name after the first few times you visit. To the right and straight ahead are the main book collections, and to the left is an area with tables, large-print books, and magazines where my grandparents usually end up sitting when they visit. There are a few chairs and cushions that seem to migrate from corner to corner. This library is every bit a small-town library, but because of all of these little details, it is one of my favorite places.
