Karnak Temple Complex - Austin Heyne

During time I spent vacationing in egypt, I saw many temples, tombs and monuments. By far the most impressive in scale (aside from the pyramids) and remaining detail was the Karnak Temple Complex. Here you are able to walk right up to and around huge temple columns, some still supporting part of the original ceiling. Many columns were upwards of 60-70 ft tall with 6 ft diameter. The Egyptians never let you forget how good they were a building big. On most of the columns you could still see detail hieroglyphics. Frequently you will find local Egyptians wearing basically the same garb they did in ancient times (because that’s what they still wear) just hanging around the temple to be in photos for tips. The temple is one of the largest ancient temples in world and as such while you are in it you feel immersed in the time and get a much better appreciation for how life must have been at that time.
