Tam O'Shanter in Los Angeles post #10 by Sherman Brennan
This restaurant is from the early 1920s. It was a hub for movie stars of that and following movie stars to meet for a private drink, meal, or both. On the walls you can see pictures of when the building was originally built, which was when Los Feliz Boulevard in L.A. was only a small dirt cow and sheep track used by locals. The interior has an Old World/Scottish public house feel to it and was frequented by stars like John Wayne, Humphrey Bogart, and Lauren Bacall.
I selected this building because when I went to it the fact that it seemed to be transported backwards in time with very little visible wear and tear on the exterior amazed me. The interior also struck me as what mature adults talk about when they say they stopped in for a cocktail before heading home. It is a place for hearty meals and stiff drinks. It was originally built in 1922 and established as an inn first, then public house later. It was established by Lawrence Frank and Walter Van De Kamp, and one of its best features is that all the interior wood has been fired in a furnace to give it distinctive smoky markings. This kept the wood from needing to be painted and all of it has lasted to this day.
