Arthur Bulin #8-Sears Tower (now known as Willis Tower)

Constructed: 1973
Architects: Skidmore, Owings and Merrill

Sears tower was constructed in 1973 by Sears, at the time the largest retailer in the world. The building is unique in its design. It is composed of 9 essentially separate buildings in a 3x3 pattern. For years Sears Tower stood as a symbol of retail and the prestige of the large department store and the drive of America for material needs.  Working in retail is something I greatly enjoy. The hay day of retail has long since passed with the development of sites like Amazon and eBay reducing our need for physical retail space and marking the end of an era in American culture.
