J. Colton Hill- Notre Dame

This is Notre Dame in Paris.  This was one of the most amazing buildings I have seen. Notre Dame is one the most popular tourist attractions in France and rightly so.  Construction began in the year 1163.  The most striking thing about Notre Dame to me is the size of the bells in the bell towers. The larges bell in particular weights over 13,000 kilograms (over 13 tons).  The tongue of the bell that clangs the inner walls of the large cast weighs over 500 pounds alone.  Further, the bell was brought to the bell towers of Notre Dame over 300 years ago when there was obviously no power equipment to get it up there.  The bell is wrung only on special occasions such as Christmas time.  The intricacy of the masonry around the large doors is also compelling to me.  It is definitely an amazing display of architecture.
