London Eye - Austin Heyne

The London Eye was, at the time of its construction and the time I visited it, the largest Ferris wheel in the world. What I particularly like about this structure is the lack of large internal supports or spokes. The wheel seems to defy gravity standing upright. The extensive use of triangular trusses are both attractive to the eye and structurally sound allowing the ride to be quite smooth. At night the Eye is colorfully illuminated by LEDs. Culturally, it is one of the most identifiable landmarks of London, on the degree of Big Ben or Tower Bridge.
