Musée d'Orsay
This was one of my favorite buildings when I visited Paris. It is the Musee d'Orsay. This is a museum that actually used to be a train station. You can tell the original design aloud for a train to enter and exit the main cylindrical corridor. The ceiling of the museum is made of a transparent glass material that allows the museum to easily fill with light from the sun. Paintings are kept in smaller rooms to the sides of the main corridor. This is imperative because the main central room is too lighted from the glass cielings to properly display paintings. The exterior of this museum is extinguished with the classic style and architecture similar to other Paris buildings such as the Luvre. The interior, in contrast, resembles modern design similar to the recent additions to the Luvre seen below:
This museum is home to several of Vincent Van Goh's masterpiece paintings including my favorite, Starry Night Over the Rhone.
I really liked the architecture of this building and was impressed at how well they converted it from a train station to a world class museum.
