Eiffel Tower
The Eiffel tower is the jewel of Paris. This massive steel structure was built in honor of the world expo that was set in 1889, then known as the World's Fair. It stood to be the tallest structure in the world until the Chrysler building was completed 41 years later.
This structure was designed by architect Gustav Eiffel but was ridiculed for what the people thought was an ugly building. Eiffel then attempted to raise the money himself, paying up to half of the cost from his own pocket. Today the building is the most famous landmark in France, and one of the most easily recognizable buildings in the world.
